The week that was..

A short one.. but we are back!

Reminders: if you have not done so already, please ensure the permission slips for the trip to New World and the food sampling are returned asap. Many thanks.

Last week: In Maths, we started looking at multiplying using either Place Value Partitioning (PVP) or Rounding and Compensation (R&C). Most get this. Ask your children if they can show you the difference:
eg. PVP
4 x 24
(4 x 20) + (4 x 4)

R & C
4 x 18
(4 x 20) - (4 x 2)

In Writing, we started work on narratives with a focus on writing an exciting opening that engages the reader. I also placed a heavy emphasis on editing; ie. not just correcting but also adding more interesting vocabulary / figurative language.

In Reading, we studied Journal stories and articles that were all linked in some way to Gallipoli and the Anzacs. I learned a lot!

For spelling, I have started using regular dictation sessions for those that are struggling. During this time, the top spellers are working on spelling sheets designed to extend them.

At the end of the week, we put on our Year 6 camp assembly. Considering how rushed the children were to get something half decent together, they acquitted themselves really well. Here's a short video of the action:

Also, here are some snaps from the week:

Another short week looms...
