Room 26’s Homework – Week 10

There is none!

All the Best

Mr R :-)

Room 26’s Homework – Week 9 – Due Friday 11th December
Writing - Superhero - the end!

Focus: a wonderful conclusion for your story. Will all of the loose ends be tied up? Will it end on a cliffhanger? Will it be a happy ending or a sad one or an ending with a twist? You decide.

Idea 1. 50 years have passed. Your hero looks back on his life and reminisces on some of the highlights/tragedies that have occurred.

Idea 2. Something happens that reverses your Superhero's powers - he/she is now back to normal.

Idea 3. You decide. Anything goes!

Or

You choose: a story, an explanation, a recount or a report...

Please make your final piece of written homework something that you can be proud of, and remember to check it for any errors.
Reading
Read for at least 15 minutes a night. Remember to circle those words you either don’t know or are unfamiliar with.
Mathematics
Mathletics – keep working on those assigned tasks. If you have no assigned tasks, please work on live mathletics. The focus is still on Geometry. Let me know of you are struggling with the tasks.

Try these - see if you can do the decimal one - try to estimate what you think the answer may be, so that you can then check your answer..

  43
x 23

  4.3
x 2.3
Grammar Recap
'i before e except after c'

Think of two or three words where this 'rule' does not apply and then write them down in a sentence.

Room 26’s Homework – Week 8 – Due Friday 4th December
Writing - Superhero - another adventure

Focus: descriptive writing, using your senses

You go away for the weekend. While away, you are forced to use your powers again. Remember what we said in class about NOT simply sequencing events. Can you try to set the scene with vivid detail. Use your senses to help with this. Paint a picture for your reader, so that your reader can see every detail that is inside your head :-)

I know this is challenging. Just give it your best shot :-)

Or

You choose: a story, an explanation, a recount or a report...

Remember: proofread and edit your work.

Challenge: see if you can use them in your writing this week.

Room 26’s Homework – Week 7 – Due Friday 27th November
Writing - Superhero - the day after...

Focus: use speech marks.

After the adrenaline rush of your first mission, your life now goes back to humdrum normality. You go back to school (or work) and everyone is talking about the Superhero. You join in a conversation or two.. what do you say? Are some people being negative? Do you try and defend the actions of the hero. Are some people jealous, excited, scared?

Use this as an exercise in practising your understanding of speech marks.

eg. As I walked into school, Bob ran up to me and said, 'Hey Fred, did you see the news?'

NB. Before the speech marks, after the word 'said', use a comma.

Or

You choose: a story, an explanation, a recount or a report...

Remember: proofread and edit your work.

Challenge
Draw a circle, measure the diameter, calculate the radius. Label them and write in the measurements. Use 'pi' (3.14) to calculate the circumference and the area of your circle. Use the info. in the blog to help you (if you can't remember ;-)).
Grammar Recap

Write 3 of 4 sentences that start with an AAAWWUUBBIS word (eg. After) - don't forget the comma for the subordinate clause.

eg. When I got home, my dog ran up to me.

You have had your powers for a few weeks and know how to use them.

Describe the day when you get to use your powers. Where were you when you had to use them? Were you at school, at home? Is it a sunny or rainy day? Did you have to find somewhere to change into a costume? How did you stop people recognising you? Were you successful or did something go wrong?

Or

You choose: a story, an explanation, a recount or a report...

Remember: proofread and edit your work.
Reading
Read for at least 15 minutes a night. Remember to circle those words you either don’t know or are unfamiliar with.

Write 3 separate sentences using they're, there and their.

Challenge: Use all 3 in one sentence!

Room 26’s Homework – Week 5 – Due Friday 13th November
Writing - Superhero

Focus: use precise language to describe exactly what happened.

This week I'd like you to describe the day your Superhero first acquired his/her super powers.
What kind of personality did your person have before they became a superhero? A nerd? An orphan? A happy child who lived in a perfect home with rich parents?
Describe in detail how the day began - what happened to cause the development of the powers.. was it sudden or did it take time?

Mathematics
Mathletics – keep working on those assigned tasks. If you have no assigned tasks, please work on live mathletics. The focus is still on Geometry. Let me know of you are struggling with the tasks.

Challenge
Use a compass to draw a circle in your book. Then measure the diameter. Next, calculate the radius and finally, work out the circumference.. you can either measure this or use the formula:
C= pi * diameter
(use the internet if you need help with this.. find out the value for pi...) If you manage this, use a piece of string around the circle and then measure that to check whether your calculation is correct.
Grammar
Write down the correct versions of these:

The dogs tails are wagging.
The dogs tail is wagging.
The dogs are scratching their heads.

Room 26’s Homework – Week 4 – Due Friday 6th November
Writing - Superhero

Either: I want you to create a superhero. You have to draw your superhero and label / list the hero's special powers.

Over the next few weeks, your superhero will be the subject of your written homework.

NB. if you choose to draw a superhero, you MUST complete the story assignments each week... ie. you can't get away with just drawing this week and then not doing the follow up work.

Read for at least 15 minutes a night. Remember to circle those words you either don’t know or are unfamiliar with.

Additional task: see how many geometrical 3D objects you have around the house. Can you list the shape and the name of the everyday object..

 eg. A tin can - a cylinder

(use the internet if you need help with this..)

Room 26’s Homework – Week 3 – REVISION (nothing to hand in this week)
Writing
Just refresh your memories on the structural requirements of explanation writing.

Sit down with your parent and have them ask you these questions. See if you can explain your strategies about how to answer these, just as we would in a Gloss test:
1. What is 234 + 78

2. What is 156 - 68

3. What is 13 x 22

4. What is 72 / 8

5. If there were enough cakes for 12 people all to eat a 1/3..  how many cakes would there need to be altogether?

6. What is 5/6 of 30?

7. What is 9.45 + 3.44?

8. What is 10.6 - 8.87?

9. Bob got 22 out of 50 in his test. What percentage of the answers did he get right?
